Ed Jones on the issues
Editorials in The Gazette
Here's Ed's take on some of today's hot issues:
Stem cell research
Stem cell research, is research I cannot support. Destroying one human life in a misguided effort to save another does not make sense to me. Once a human female reproductive cell unites with a male reproductive cell fertilization occurs. Thus begins the human life cycle and destroying this life is not acceptable in my opinion for research.
The stimulus package
President Obama and Congress proposed is once again the government stealing our tax dollars for special interest. The stimulus package will burden our children and our grand children and even great grand children in taxes. Government does not and has never created jobs, the private sector creates jobs. President Obama on January 6, 2009 stated "We are going to ban all earmarks". The definition of earmarks is the process by which individual members can insert pet projects without review. I feel once again his statement is untrue and the stimulus bill is full of PORK.
Health care
Health care is a very important issue and I believe one size does not fit all. If government gets involved and starts to dictate what doctors see you and when and where you can see a doctor, in my opinion death will be lurking in your future. Patients should always come first and your choice in health care should be yours not the federal government’s. In my opinion you're looking at socialism is the making.
Terrorism
The security of this great country should be handled by Homeland Security. With this new administration terrorism is no longer in our vocabulary. In my opinion diligence is a factor in the security of our country as well as we as Americans should take on the responsibility to report any and all activity that could jeopardize our freedom and security. We have not been attacked since 2001, but never get too comfortable, thinking we are safe, remember the terrorist cells are still living among us.
Illegal immigration
Immigration is another issue that I feel passionately about. I think we need to build and maintain the fence now. We don't need more laws we just need to adhere to the ones on the books. Allowing illegals the benefits we have as Americans is not the answer to illegal immigration, it just creates more problems and animosity.
Energy
Energy, resources-President Obama would hurt the hardest 95% of working families, admitting to a no tax pledge which comes with a caveat. However, the 95% he is trying to protect with a no tax philosophy is going to be harmed more. I believe the poor and middle class-income households spend more of their paychecks, for example on gas to get to and from work, groceries and heating their homes. We have resources in America to become independent of foreign oil and until we start domestic drilling our country will never be independent of foreign oil.
